49. For Hipta

I invoke Hipta, the nurse of Bakchos,
the maid who cries “Euoi!” and glorifies
the holy one, Sabos, in mystical
rituals, and who dances in the night
in honor of loud-thundering Iacchus.
Hear me praying, chthonic mother and queen,
whether you are on Ide, the sacred
mountain in Phrygia, or if Tmolos
delights you, the beautiful dancing place
of the Lydians: come to the mystic
rites with happiness on your holy face.
