31. Hymn for the Kouretes

Bounding Kouretes, marching to the beat,
you whirl and howl, dancing in the mountains.
You strike your lyres in strange rhythm, and ride
your horses with nimble feet. Shining famed
soldiers, guards, commanders, comrades in arms,
you reveal the rites of your mountain-mad
mother. Come, pleased by these well-omened words;
with gracious hearts, be kind to the oxherd.
